There seems to be so much to learn with Keyword Research I always feel I’m missing the point somewhere, not seeing the whole picture. Recently however I’ve been turning the problem round, I’ve been searching for my own sites and then analysing why other sites appeared before mine in the SERPS (search engine results pages). I then pull out useful keywords and  phrases and work them into my own site. I am using lots of the free tools as well to enrich my posts, I list these tools here at Keyword Research Tools .  I guess a lot of patience is required in the blogging game. Google Analytics will show you what search terms were you used to find your site, this can give you a few more insights and produces many surprises, one of the terms which produced the most traffic for one of my blogs was “My First Car Boot Sale”.

What you are aiming for is to get into the heads of the average Joe who is searching for information and solutions, what would he type, miss-type in? This is actually difficult for someone who is too close to his subject/website to determine. Use the keyword research tools especially those that reveal what people have actually searched for.
