If Google Was Your Mommy

The brothers had been busy clearing up the yard and chopping wood for the winter. They came in at dusk really hungry, they weren’t disappointed their Mommy had cooked roast chicken, beef, sausages, eggs and French fries. They sat down at the table, and Mommy said Ben you’re on the First Page of Google so you get all the meat and the fries. Luke you’re on Page Three of Google so you get the eggs. Timmy you’re only on page 7 of Google so you just get this stick of celery!

That would be one cruel mother wouldn’t it but Google is like that it gives all the rewards to the sites that claw their way to the top of the rankings. It’s even worse than that being number 1 on the first page of Google brings you 34% of all the traffic, being in the last position on page 1 you are already down to 2 per cent, this drops to one percent if you are in number one position on the second page.

Of course it’s not as bad as it seems as even a tiny proportion of Google’s Traffic could make you rich or your business boom, but it all goes to emphasise the importance of understanding SEO, keyword research, backlinking and social bookmarking in fact you can never learn enough about these matters. I’m still stunned to realize that my Under-Achiever sites earn nearly as much as my blood-sweat-and-tears sites and that “dull” obvious commercial sites like weight-loss, mortgages, will still easily outperform worthy sites. Under-Achiever sites are those that you build and forget.

The best earning sites are strictly commercial; Lose Weight, Get Healthy, Find a Partner, Save Money on your Insurance, Mortgages don’t think these themes must be played out, that’s where the hungry crowd is and always will be
Do masses of keyword/niche research before choosing a micro-niche in one of the above
Make quick automatic sites, then make more
Avoid creating vanity websites: that’s to say websites on subjects that are close to your heart
Use Google Analytics to get user stats
Make sure everything you post on your sites has a payload that’s to say affiliate links to products you promote
Lever your creative effort re-using your post in several places, your blog, your mailing list, an ezine article
Participate, every comment you leave on another blog, or in a forum, or social site has a chance of helping
Learn everything you can about keyword research/SEO/Niche Research
Remember however your reward is non-linear that something you might put a lot of effort into pays little, but 5 minutes work you did a year ago suddenly pays big
Keep going, don’t look back, don’t give up

Dr Oz’s TV Show in America featured the Original Himalayan Crystal Salt Pipe Inhaler recently causing a burst of traffic to my squidoo.com/Salt-Pipes lens, this seems to have died down now but was great while it lasted . An important part of Internet Marketing is piggy-backing news and events in the world by creating corresponding posts. Every little bit helps when it comes to generating traffic, I’m gradually developing my own strategy. I’ve read so much advice from experts but never felt I’ve quite grasped the essential of SEO but now the first time I feel I am developing my own strategy so instead of turning round in circles I now have a direction and a policy; it feels great.

In life we always have to do this I mean learn as much as we can from teachers, tutors,experts books etc but then at a certain moment strike out on our own and have confidence in our own abilities.

The Secret of Making Money with Squidoo

Having created over 50 Lens on Squidoo I ‘m starting to get a feel of how to succeed and make a little money. Once again it’s the opposite of what you think, you have to create lens that genuinely interest you, provide information that you wish to share, you cannot fool Squidoo or Google for long. There is no hobby too obscure, so go ahead be creative and publish things close to your heart. Of course there are Squidoo and SEO tips that you can employ but in the end as usual “Content is King”. Martin Avis’s London Lunches for Internet Marketers

Mild-mannered Martin Avis has a huge following in the UK with his Kick Start newsletter and now organizes regular London Lunches for Internet Marketers. These are usually held in the Strand Palace Hotel for a maximum of 30 people. People travel from Holland and Cyprus just to come. Many of the UK big names join these lunches. I attended today’s September meet and renewed acquaintance with Kevin Polley, and Pearson Brown and met Sarah Staar (note that I avoided Rising Star pun). In fact you don’t get time to meet everyone, but you always learn something new with these face to face meetings. NameCheap Now Have an Affiliation Program

Namecheap.com seem to be the de-facto best domain name website company. They are cheap and provide a control panel which allows you redirect your domain names whenever you want. So I use Namecheap for domains and HostGator for my webspace.

You might ask why keep them separate, well it just gives you more control.

My Struggle to Earn Money Online

In 2005 I attended a Frank Garon seminar on Internet Marketing and was bowled over by the possibility of selling information products on the Internet that required no warehouse space, no inventory, no delivery costs, boy did I want some of that.

Well 4 years later I am finally getting somewhere I nearly make an affiliate sale or earn some other online income everyday; but what a struggle to get there. I was an eBay Powerseller, I sold second hand books on Amazon. I started blogs, mailing lists. Now I make money from Adsense, from Squidoo (hooray for Squidoo), I get affiliate sales from Amazon and eBay, occasionally an affiliate fee from a product I’ve blogged about. So in addition to Adsense where I earn a couple of dollars a day, I am making an average of one affiliate sale a day. I’m certain I could have got this far much quicker, but I can’t be told by others how to do things I have to do things my way, I guess that’s the best way in the end , stop listening to all the contradictory advice from the Gurus, but as I say it’s been tough and still doesn’t impress my nearest and dearest!

My next success stage will be to be to have something really sell like hotcakes, I am sure this will happen soon as this business rewards momentum, ie the more successful you are the more successful you’ll be.

What I find psychologically difficult is doing all that work without seeing immediate reward/encouragement even though I know that’s how it is. Just keep going don’t look back! What is your story?

Success or Failure, Rich or Poor it’s Your Choice

Curiously the diagram (by Frank Kern) above echos my own recent experience, in the last few days I’ve got commission for selling a Salt Pipe from an old blog posting on my Aloe Vera Blog . My Squidoo lens Barbie Versus Bratz sold indirectly a Thomas the Tank Toy . Another Lens Zulu Principle made 24 cents commission from an eBay Sale. Other than that I made a dollar commision from an eBay affiliation link and a few dollars more from Amazon Affiliation links. So it’s getting rich really slowly but it is proof that blogs and lens do sell product.

As shown in the above sketch you just have to keep blogging about things that interest you and eventually you will get traffic and then sales, it’s just a numbers game!! But it’s not easy and it’s kind of lonely and discouraging to work way for an uncertain reward but that’s what success is all about, that’s what that the success-failure diagram is all about
